Recruitment Sources a Crucial Element.
Recruitment starts when the organization does proper human resource planning. In recruitment, an organization focuses on appointing an efficient employee to a department. Recruitment is a very crucial element because here the organization needs to do a lot of searches and filter the candidates as per the requirement.
Definitions
According to Edwin B. Flippo, “It is a process of searching for prospective employees and stimulating and encouraging them to apply for jobs in an organization.”
In the words of Dale Yoder, “Recruitment is the process to discover the sources of manpower to meet the requirements of the staffing schedule and to employ effective measures for attracting that manpower in adequate numbers to facilitate effective selection of an efficient working force”.
Sources Of Recruitment
I.Internal Sources
These are sources that are available in the organization itself which require fewer efforts and less cost.
1. Transfers
These are the best sources of recruitment where an employee is being transferred from one location to another within the same company. Many times, there might not be a change in designation or a hike in payment, but the motive will be to fill the vacant posts.
2. Employee Referrals
It means the present employees in the organization suggest their references about appointing a new employee, with whom they will get to know more. Here, there will be less or zero risk of appointing an unknown employee.
3. Present Employees
Here, the employees are being given a promotion with an increase in their designation and pay hikes according to their post. The present employee will be an effective source as they will also be motivated and happy after giving an increment & organization will also know the employees’ capabilities.
4. Former Employees
Here again, a new change will be given to that employee who has left the organization. These employees might be retired employees who might be ready to work on a part-time basis or for less pay.
II. External Sources
These are sources where the organization has to search for employees from the external environment and then finalize the candidates according to the requirements of the organization.
1. Advertisement
These are the common source here the organization advertises in different ways, like displaying pop-up ads on the internet or giving an ad. In the newspaper, professional journals, etc.
2. Employee Exchange
Here, the aspiring organization gives details of employee requirements to the employment exchange office, then the exchange matches the candidate’s information with the organization’s requirements, and then suggests the required candidates.
3. Campus recruitment
This is the most commonly used source. Here, the organization’s HR staff visits colleges with courses like management and engineering, and conducts an aptitude test and later personal interviews to select the candidates for the required vacant posts.
4. Labor Unions
If the organization is hiring for construction, hotels, etc., all recruits come from unions. This is advantageous from the management point of view as it saves the expenses of recruitment.
