    This article presents a scaffold for the instruction and assessment of veterinary euthanasia communication skills in alignment with a competency-based veterinary education (CBVE) framework and outlines specific learning interventions used in the course that are scalable and may be extracted and incorporated into existing courses.

    In residential care, 50% of older adults are sedentary in most of their time, regardless of the positive impact of physical exercise on health. This study analysed whether television images positively impact the motivation and exercise intensity of cycling exercises of older adults in residential care.

    This study has shown indications that the addition of television images may increase the exercise intensity and motivation to exercise in residential older adults with MCI. However, the overall levels of physical activity were insufficient to meet the recommendations for moderate-intense aerobic exercise according to the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics and Global Ageing Research Network.Implications for rehabilitationCycling in front of a television increases the exercise volume and motivation to exercise in residential (pre)frail older adults with MCICybercycling had no additional effect in comparison to television images not linked to the exercise.Even with television images (pre)frail older adults with MCI did not meet the recommendations for moderate-intense aerobic exercise for residential older adults according to the IAGG-GARN.The veterinary medical workforce is increasingly female; occupational feminization often transfers stereotypes associated with the predominant gender onto the profession. It is unknown whether within veterinary medicine a feminized public image is a possible contributor to the reduction in male applicants to training programs. The influence of stereotypically gendered messaging on how male and female undergraduate students perceive veterinary medicine was investigated in 482 undergraduate students enrolled in five introductory or second-level biology courses. Two short videos introducing the field of veterinary medicine were developed with imagery and language selected to emphasize either stereotypic feminine (communal) or masculine (agentic) aspects of the field. Participant groups were randomly assigned one of the two videos (feminine/communal or masculine/agentic) or no video (no exposure). An outcome survey elicited impressions of the field of veterinary medicine and gathered demographic data. There was a significant linear trend of condition on perception of the profession as feminine or masculine and on perception of the activities of a veterinarian as feminine/communal or masculine/agentic. Female participants were significantly more likely to agree that someone of their gender would be valued in the profession. Male participants reported significantly higher self-efficacy scores for performing the tasks of a veterinarian when they viewed the feminine stereotype video. These results demonstrate that gendered perceptions of the field can be manipulated. Intentional gendered messaging should be further explored as one strategy to broaden the talent pool in the workforce by attracting men back to the field.

    Children with physical disabilities commonly use mobility devices. There is a lack of studies on the use and impact of mobility devices on activities and participation. Research is needed on satisfaction with the service delivery process of mobility devices.

    To examine the use and impact of mobility devices among children with physical disabilities and the satisfaction with the properties of their mobility devices and related services.

    A web-based survey was sent to parents of 6 - 18 years old children with physical disabilities who used mobility devices in Iceland. Here, we investigated the molecular events prompted by stimulation with flagellin and its role in regulating innate immunity in the lung of the pig, which is anatomically and genetically more similar to humans than rodent models. We found that flagellin treatment modulated NF-κB signaling and intracellular calcium homeostasis in airway epithelial cells.
