This study aims to assess the properties of foamed concrete with a density of around 500, 700, 800 and 1000 kg/m3 formed by using a synthetic polymer-based foaming agent. The distribution of pores, wet and dry density and compressive strengths were evaluated. In addition, the creep deformations of foamed concrete with different densities were measured. The difference in density of up to 170 kg/m3 for the highest densities was obtained. Foamed concrete with higher densities (700 and 800 kg/m3) showed similar characteristics of pores, which were different from those of samples with a density of 500 kg/m3. Compressive strength equal to 5.9 ± 0.2, 5.1 ± 0.2, 3.8 ± 0.3 and 1.4 ± 0.2 MPa was obtained for foamed concrete with a density of 500, 700, 800 and 1000 kg/m3, respectively. The obtained compressive strengths were higher than those found in the literature for the foamed concrete with the same densities. With increasing density, smaller creep deformations were obtained. Creep deformations were 509, 495 and 455 με for samples with densities of around 500, 700 and 1000 kg/m3 respectively. The potential of using diagnostic tests that were originally developed for previous epidemic viruses is also presented.Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is one of the most common treatments for people with severe knee osteoarthritis (OA). The accuracy of outcome measurements and quantitative assessments for perioperative TKA is an important issue in clinical practice. Timed up and go (TUG) tests have been validated to measure basic mobility and balance capabilities. A TUG test contains a series of subtasks, including sit-to-stand, walking-out, turning, walking-in, turning around, and stand-to-sit tasks. Detailed information about subtasks is essential to aid clinical professionals and physiotherapists in making assessment decisions. The main objective of this study is to design and develop a subtask segmentation approach using machine-learning models and knowledge-based postprocessing during the TUG test for perioperative TKA. The experiment recruited 26 patients with severe knee OA (11 patients with bilateral TKA planned and 15 patients with unilateral TKA planned). A series of signal-processing mechanisms and pattern recognition approaches involving machine learning-based multi-classifiers, fragmentation modification and subtask inference are designed and developed to tackle technical challenges in typical classification algorithms, including motion variability, fragmentation and ambiguity. Stress can mask clinical signs and has physiological impacts. Alpha-s1 casozepin (Zylkène; Vétoquinol) could potentially minimize stress in cats with its calming and anxiolytic characteristics. A randomized, partial double-blind and placebo-controlled study was carried out with 60 adult cats. The trial was designed for three groups low dose (15 mg/kg q24 h α-s1 casozepin for six days), high dose (75 mg/kg q24 h α-s1 casozepin for three days), and a placebo (one fructose capsule per day for three days). For the study, cats had a checkup at their trusted veterinarian without the dietary supplement, followed by a second one four weeks later. Alpha-s1 casozepin or a placebo was administered three to six days before the checkup. Fecal cortisol metabolites (FCMs) were measured to non-invasively evaluate the impact of α-s1 casozepin on adrenocortical activity.
